Southside boxing academy is located in the old fullflex factory in the galvone industrial estate in the roxboro road area, the club has been set up by Gerry Barry former coach and president of Southill boxing club,
Minister Leo Varadkar opened the new Southside Boxing Academy in Southill on 22nd October 2012.
The first Boxing High Performance Unit outside of Dublin was launched in Limerick with the support of Irish Olympians John Joe Nevin and Darren O'Neill.
The facility will serve all young boxers in the Limerick and Munster area who previously had to travel to Dublin for high performance training.
Southill Boxing Club which ceased in 2004 has been re-formed with a committee of Gerry Barry (Club President and author of A History of Boxing Clubs in Limerick) Tony Deloughrey (retired international boxer) Steve Gleeson (Gleesons Sports Scene) Kieran Ryan, (Limerick Regeneration) Fr Joe Young, Michael ‘Buster’ McNamara (former boxer) and Maurice English (Southill CTC).
