LCGA rotates selections from the Permanent Collections and generously loans works from its collections to national & international institutions for temporary exhibitions.
The turning point in the fortunes of the Gallery came in 1985 when the Carnegie Building was officially named the Limerick City Gallery of Art. LCGA is the jewel in Limerick’s Crown and a dedicated visual arts space.
Over the years it expanded to encompass the whole of the Carnegie Building resulting in larger amounts of exhibition spaces for the contemporary exhibitions by local, national and international artists along with an enhanced proportion of the permanent collections.
The collections include the National Collection of Contemporary Drawing, the Michael O’Connor Poster Collection, The Hollander Prints, New York Series, along with fine art, sculpture and design works.
LCGA aims to be a model of a 21st century civic space.
LCGA receives funding from the Arts Council for the contemporary exhibitions programme.
