As Limerick’s senior hurlers bid for a clean sweep of titles at Croke Park this Sunday they are urging supporters to demonstrate their pride in Limerick by helping to keep it clean.
The reigning All Ireland champions will bid to add the Liam McCarthy cup to their haul of trophies in 2023 having already secured the Allianz League and Munster Championship titles.
Limerick will come to a standstill on Sunday afternoon as fans flock to TV screens in homes, pubs, hostelries and outdoor venues across the city and county. Thousands are set to enjoy the match live on the big screen at Pery Square in the city’s beautiful Georgian Quarter adjacent to the People’s Park.
There will also be a big screen event at the Square in Newcastle West organised by Newcastle West Business Association and supported by Limerick City and County Council. A Limerick victory over Kilkenny in this weekend’s final would be a record equaling four-in-row for the Shannonsiders. Following the game supporters will pour out on to the streets of our city, towns and villages.
The Limerick senior hurling team actively support the Team Limerick Clean Up (TLC) each Good Friday and Captain, Declan Hannon says they are all getting behind an anti-litter message.
“This time all of us are asking our supporters at the Limerick City and County events to show even more pride in Limerick by bringing home your litter. From now, join with us in taking care not to litter and especially at our upcoming events in the city. Leave no trace and leave the city as you found it, clean and presentable,” he said.
Two-time Player of the Year and Vice-Captain, Cian Lynch added:
“We are so grateful for our supporters who clearly love Limerick city and county. A special request we have this year is for supporters to keep Limerick clean, especially at the events around the city and county. It will be a continued expression of unity and pride. Team Limerick, Luimneach Abú!”
Limerick GAA Chairman Seamus McNamara said:
“The Limerick County GAA Board are fully behind this Team Limerick Clean Up message. Show pride in this team by keeping Limerick clean. Leave no litter or waste after you. It’s a message we can all observe and be unified about, especially at these upcoming events.”
The Big Screen event at Pery Square is presented by Limerick GAA in partnership with Limerick City and County Council.
