The popular festival of architecture, OpenHouse Limerick, is celebrating its 10th year in Limerick city and county with the 2021 theme Architecture is Reconnecting, and to celebrate Culture Night on Friday 17th September they are inviting the public to join them for What Lies Beneath, a guided walking tour of St. Mary’s Cathedral grounds, led by archaeologist John Elliott.
For over 850 years, St. Mary's Cathedral has dominated the skyline of the historic core of Limerick City. Join archaeologist John Elliott on a tour of the cathedral grounds, where the history of the development of the building will be gleaned from the surviving medieval fabric. The tour will also investigate elements of the medieval streetscape of the city that survive in the cathedral grounds.
This Culture Night tour forms part of the OpenHouse Limerick 2021 Architectural Festival. This event begins at Merchant's Quay, in front of St. Mary’s Cathedral at 6pm on Friday 17th September, and will last for approximately 1 hour. This free tour will accommodate 40 pre-booked participants, booking through eventbrite here.
