Food and wine writer Leslie Williams will visit West Limerick on Thursday 7th October to celebrate Spanish Food & Wine Week. The Examiner journalist has been invited to host a special Spanish themed lunch complete with Spanish wine tasting in the recently opened Platform 22 Café which is part of the Barnagh Greenway Hub outside Newcastle West.
“I am delighted to have designed a unique tapas menu which showcases local West Limerick food and drink producers,” said Platform 22’s Olive Sheehan. “These will be paired with a tasting of 2 wines from the Spanish Camino which is in keeping with our location on the Limerick Greenway.”
This is the sixth annual Spanish Food and Wine Week in Ireland and is designed for food and wine lovers. Various events take place across Ireland from 6-10 October including the lunch and wine tasting at Platform 22. The €25 menu features a selection of tapas including Cotter’s lamb burgers with pickled Limerick cucumber, pressed belly of Rigney’s Farm free-range pork with Attyflin Estate apple chutney, patatas bravas made with Cecil Gallagher’s potatoes and Bally Goat’s Cheese served with Barnagh blackberries. Booking is essential by phone 069 61512.
The Spanish Food & Wine Week lunch is a result of the second phase of the West Limerick Food Series, a comprehensive networking and training programme that started in February. The initiative is designed to inspire and develop the food sector and food tourism industry by fostering collaboration between businesses in the region and Olive’s menu is a perfect example of this. The programme is being delivered by The Discovery Partnership on behalf of West Limerick Resources CLG who secured funding under the LEADER Food Initiative delivered by the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Department of Agriculture to further develop the food sector and food tourism industry in the area.
The West Limerick Food Series is a blend of workshops with expert trainers, guest speakers and interactive discussion and is suitable for, but not limited to, food/drink producers and growers, café owners, restaurateurs and chefs, hoteliers, B&B owners, tour guides/operators, retailers, publicans, tourist attractions and food/drink enthusiasts.
Participation in the programme is free and registration is required. For more information and/or to register for future modules, visit the West Limerick Food Series on Eventbrite or email westlimerickfood@gmail.com.
