The centenary of the birth of Ireland’s most celebrated movie star and Queen Of Technicolour, Maureen O’Hara, was celebrated on Monday 17th August at Foynes Flying Boat & Maritime Museum.
To honour Maureen on this special anniversary of her birth a selection of fashion items from their extensive collection of memorabilia were presented in a live fashion show by the Hollman Lee Agency. 35 people attended in compliance with Covid-19 regulations.
The day began with a champagne reception with entertainment by Liam O’Brien, followed by lunch created and cooked by Executive Chef Tom Flavin featuring all West Limerick produce. The Holman Lee Agency presented over 50 garments and accessories from the museum collection and Hair and hair and make up was by Catherine Hickey. Videographer Kevin Daly recorded the entire event for live streaming on www.irishcentral.com.
Maureen was a trailblazer in every way. She was the the Queen Of Technicolour who paved the way for so many Irish actors in Hollywood. She was ahead of her time with the Me Toomovement and she was responsible for getting Ireland recognised as a country on the official paperwork for American Citizenship. In 1946 when she herself applied for dual citizenship she discovered she had to tick previous nationality as British which she refused to do and went to court to get it changed and to get Ireland listed on the papers.

RTE Nationwide concluded filming on the day and a special programme will be broadcast on RTE 1 next Monday night 24th August @ 7pm.
