The People's Museum of Limerick is set to come alive with the enchanting power of poetry on Fri 22nd Sept 2023, at 7:30pm. The Poetry Circle, in collaboration with the Limerick Writers' Centre, proudly presents an evening of poetic expressions, featuring renowned poets Eugene Platt, Michael Farry and Amy Barry. The event will take place at the welcoming People's Museum of Limerick, located at 2 Pery Sq., Limerick.
The highlight of the evening will be captivating readings by the three distinguished poets, whose unique voices have garnered great acclaim.
Eugene Platt was born in Charleston, South Carolina, in 1939. After serving in the Army, he graduated from the University of South Carolina and earned a Diploma in Anglo-Irish Literature at Trinity College Dublin. His poems have appeared in many literary publications and some have been choreographed. He has given over 100 public readings of his work and was invited to read in the inaugural Dublin Arts Festival in 1970. He was the first Poet Laureate of the Town of James Island and was Poet-in-Residence for public radio station WSCI. He lives in Charleston with his main muses: Montreal-born wife Judith, corgi Bess, and cats Finnegan and Maeve. His collected poems Weaned on War was published by Revival Press in 2022.
Michael Farry was born in Sligo in 1947 and is a retired primary teacher. He has published several books of poetry and history, mostly related to Sligo and the Irish revolution. He is also a founder member of Boyne Writers Group and LitLab Writers Group. He has published three collections of his poetry, the latest Troubles (2020); Asking for Directions (2012) and The Age of Glass (2017) with Doghouse Books and Revival Press.
Joining them is Amy Abdullah Barry who writes poems and short stories. She is published globally including Cyphers, Southword, The Sunday Tribune and elsewhere. She is featured in Breaking Ground Ireland and in RTE Radio One. Her poems have been translated into many languages. She has been awarded Literature bursaries from The Arts Council Ireland and Words Ireland. She is an awardee of the Poetry Ireland Introductions Series 2022. Her debut collection, ‘Flirting with Tigers’ was published by Dedalus Press in April 2023.
In addition to the enthralling readings, The Poetry Circle welcomes aspiring poets and spoken word artists to take the stage during the Open-Mic session.
