Today, Cook Medical donated €23,437 to Novas as part of a charity partnership between the two organisations. For the past three years Cook Medical has raised more than €40,000 for the homeless charity including sponsoring their Annual Sleep-Out for the past three years.
The most recent donation by Cook Medical is funding the development of an art therapy centre in Brother Russell House. Brother Russell House provides supported accommodation for people experiencing homelessness with intellectual, physical and sensory disabilities. Art therapy has proved a very successful way of supporting residents to address trauma. With no space available in the building, the staff and management of Cook Medical identified this as a project they wished to get involved with and help create a dedicated space for residents. The centre will be completed by the end of March.
Throughout the last three years, Cook Medical staff have volunteered their time and resources and raised huge amounts of money for the Limerick based homeless charity.
Una Burns, Head of Policy and Communications with Novas described the partnership as a very ‘enriching experience'.
"As well as raising vital funds for our services on the ground, staff and management of Cook Medical took a very hands-on approach to the partnership. Prior to the pandemic staff participated in many volunteer days; painting, gardening and general upkeep of our services, as well as participating in and organising a range of fundraising events. Throughout the pandemic they continued to be a wonderful source of support, being innovative and agile in developing new ways to make the partnership successful and meaningful during the lockdown periods, offering practical advice and donating PPE for our frontline workers when it was scarce on the ground!"
She went on to say that "Cook Medical have been the primary sponsor of our Annual Sleep-Out for three years. This is our single largest fundraising event of the year and we are immensely grateful for the support in helping us to grow the event throughout the Munster region."
