On Thursday, September 26th Milford Care Centre hosted their annual Bewley’s Coffee Morning, now in its 32nd year.

The national fundraising event co-ordinated by Together For Hospice, a National Hospice Movement, saw supporters hosting or attending coffee mornings throughout the island of Ireland, helping to raise funds needed for specialist palliative care services and quality initiatives, that improve the care of patients with life-limiting illnesses.

As part of the nationwide effort, Milford Hospice hosted its own Coffee Morning in the Centre’s restaurant, which was well attended by patients’ family members, staff and volunteers, who all came together in support of the fundraiser.

Part of this flagship fundraiser saw Milford Care Centre honour two of Limerick’s most inspiring figures: John Kiely, the esteemed Limerick hurling manager, and Roisin Ni Rhiain, a remarkable Paralympian and proud Limerick native.

Milford was delighted to recognise the outstanding contributions of these local heroes. John Kiely’s leadership has been instrumental in Limerick’s hurling success, that resulted in them  winning 5 All Ireland Senior Hurling titles.

While Roisin Ni Rhiain’s accomplishments of winning both a silver and bronze medals at the 2024 Paris Paralympics as well as the five medals she secured at this year’s Para Swimming European Championships. These sporting heroes have inspired and will continue to inspire us all. Cllr. Dan McSweeney and other special guests joined a lively Coffee Morning in support of Milford Hospice, where every cent raised locally, stays within the local community.

This year, over 300 hosts across the Midwest region generously opened their doors, restaurants, schools, and homes to host a coffee morning. We extend our gratitude to each and every one of you for your unwavering support.

Speaking at the event, Mary O’Brien, Chief Executive Officer of Milford Care Centre, expressed her gratitude to all that attended Milford’s Coffee Morning and to all those that hosted fundraising events.

"A sincere thank you, to everyone who attended this morning’s event and to our local community for their incredible support, whether hosting or attending a Coffee Morning today. The funds raised, will go towards improving the experience of patients with life limiting conditions, enhance specialised care and purchase specialised equipment to enhance the comfort of patients and support the needs of their families".
