Café Lógr is a new casual bistro offering modern flavoursome and seasonal dishes, will open in the picturesque village of Adare, Co. Limerick later this week. The 24-seater restaurant opens in what was previously The Village Bistro on Main Street, which runs through the heart of the popular tourist destination and local heritage centre.

The interior space has undergone a complete refurbishment, a lot of which has been undertaken by the new owners, husband and wife team David and Petra Hayes, throughout the Covid-19 lockdown to get the eatery ready for its grand opening. Café Lógr (Czech slang for ‘leftover coffee grounds’) is the couple’s first business venture. The lease for the premises was secured just two weeks before Ireland went into Covid-19 lockdown.

The breakfast and lunch menus draw on inspiration from classic French Bistro cooking using the best of Irish produce, which will change with the seasons. The bistro also has plans to open for dinner on Friday and Saturday nights in the coming weeks.

Chef, David, has a no fuss approach to food; his dishes are created using just a few star ingredients, every element on the plate is there for a reason, and they are plated simply. The menus at Café Lógr will change and evolve on a regular basis, but always showcase ingredients from trusted local suppliers. These include the likes of grass-reared beef from Barry’s Family Butchers in Croom, Co. Limerick, Croom Free Range Eggs, bacon from the award-winning McCarthy’s of Kanturk, Co. Cork, Cheeses from O’Briens Artisan Farmhouse Cheese in Ballyhahill, Co. Limerick, salad leaves and seasonal vegetables from 2019 Euro-Toques National Craft Award Winner, New Leaf Urban Farmers in Ballyneety, Co. Limerick, and freshly caught Irish seafood from the family-run CS Fish in Doonbeg, Co. Clare.

David, a graduate of the Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT), was previously Head Chef at the multi award-winning Maigue Restaurant in the Dunraven Arms Hotel, Adare for 9 years from 2008 to 2017, and before that, The Lime Tree Restaurant in Kenmare. Most recently he held the Executive Chef position at leading hospitality provider, Baxter Storey.

David says: “We are both thrilled to be opening our doors following months of planning and renovations during what has been a very uncertain lockdown period. Here in Adare we are blessed with top quality local produce right on our doorstep. Our aim at Café Lógr is to treat it simply and cook honest flavourful dishes with attentive service in a casual and relaxed environment.”

Highlights on the breakfast menu will include the likes of Apple Soaked Overnight Oats, Velvet Cloud Sheep’s Milk Yoghurt, Prunes, Pistachios, Cinnamon and Bee Pollen, Wild Mushrooms on Sourdough Toast, Soft Fried Croom Free Range Egg and Wild Garlic, and Poached Croom Free Range Eggs, Spiced Chickpeas, Lemon & Garlic Yoghurt, Harissa, O’Briens Feta.

For Lunch diners can expect Breast of Rings Farm Chicken, Caesar Dressing, Tender Stem Broccoli, Smoked Almonds and Cáis Na Tíre, Pat Barry’s Slow Cooked Aberdeen Angus, Soy & Ginger Broth, Egg Noodles, Soft Fried Croom Free Range Egg and White Mausu Peanut Rayu, and Confit Lamb Shoulder, New Leaf Urban Farmers Salad Leaves, Capers, Heirloom Tomatoes, Lamb & Parsley Vinaigrette.

David and Petra are both hugely passionate about coffee and will be backing up their food offering, serving coffees made with quality locally sourced beans from artisan roastery, The Old Barracks, in Birdhill, Co. Tipperary.
