Limerick Dragons, formed in 2016, are a support network for anyone who received cancer treatment and are open to cancer survivors and their supporters.
Limerick Dragons was formed in 2016 by a group of breast cancer survivors and their supporters. Much fundraising was done and in 2017 they purchased their first dragon boat. They paddle on the River Shannon and launch the boat on the slipway on O’Callaghan Strand. Some days if you are driving along the road near Cleeves Carpark you will see them taking the boat down to the water to launch. They are quite the sight when moving the 40-foot dragon boat with up to 22 paddlers to the Shannon.
The paddling times are dependent on the tide and weather can often adversely affect us. But when the conditions are right the section of water we paddle on is a glorious spot to be.
In cooperation with the Limerick Kayaking Academy the Dragons regularly explore the river Shannon on kayaks and when the weather just isn’t suitable for water sports, they get together for Nordic walking and social coffee meet-ups.
