The Castleconnell Heritage Centre, formally opened by local historian Paddy Tuohy on St. Patricks Day 2016, is on display in the heart of the village in the ACM Community Centre.
The Heritage Centre provides a central location to store and showcase the rich history of the parish for visitors as well as current and future generations to enjoy.
To date with the help of many local community volunteers, much has been achieved including:
Liaising with local community led development group Ballyhoura Development to survey, map and record the Stradbally and St. Joseph’s Church graveyards to form part of a nationwide resource now available on-line from www.historicgraves.ie.
Scanning and indexing St. Joseph’s Catholic Church parish records by way of preserving the information and making it available online.
Working with the three local primary schools to similarly scan the registers from Castleconnell, Ahane and Lisnagry National Schools.
Sourcing historical artefacts, maps, books, documents, photographs and information for display and research.
Indexing the local parish annual An Caislean from its first issue in 1997.
Producing six informative display boards about the River, Castle and Great Houses of the area.
Bringing back to the village the War of Independence ‘Castleconnell Banner’.
