The ruins of Askeaton Hellfire Club stand on an island in the River Deel.

The Hellfire Club stand within the bailey of Askeaton Castle. The red brick and stone Hellfire Club was built in 1740 by the St Leger family. It was one of a collection of Hellfire Clubs created throughout Ireland and Britain in the 18th century. These clubs were surrounded with infamy as  they were a place where rich gentlemen with gather to play games and drink. The club in Askeaton lasted less than 60 years as it closed before 1800.

The early members of the Askeaton Hell Fire Club is depicted in a painting b James Worsdale. Some of the Eleven men, one woman, and a boy, have been identified. These include: Edward Croker and John Croker of Ballingarde; Wyndham Quin of Adare, father of the 1st Earl of Dunraven; Thomas Royce of Nantenan, near Askeaton; John Bayley of Debsborough, Nenagh, Co Tipperary; and Henry Prittie
