Fannings Castle

  • Fannings Castle

This National Monument tower house was built c.1641 by Mayor of Limerick Dominic Fanning.

Originally five stories high, built of roughly squared limestone blocks of varying sizes. The first floor level is almost at street level on Mary Street, on of the original main streets of medieval Limerick city. Although the building itself is in private ground and inaccessible, it can be viewed through large front gates.
