Mayor of Limerick

John Moran was elected to the position of Mayor of Limerick on 11th June 2024. In 2019, the people of Limerick voted in favour of implementing a directly elected Mayor, marking a significant step towards enhanced democratic accountability and local governance. This landmark decision culminated in the election held on June 7, 2024, followed by the inauguration of Limerick's first ever directly elected Mayor on June 21, 2024, in a ceremony held in St Mary’s Cathedral.

“For the first time in the history of Limerick, the Mayor of Limerick, or Meara Luimni, is not just the Mayor, but is the Mayor of the people and belongs truly to them!” – Mayor Moran

The Mayor of Limerick is enthusiastic about engaging with the community and frequently attends public events, though his schedule fills up quickly. To invite the Mayor to your event, please review the Protocol for Invitations to the Mayor here.
