Excitement is nearing fever pitch as Limerick chase a record equaling championship four-in-row in the All Ireland Senior Hurling Final against Kilkenny on Sunday 23 July.

The scramble for Croke Park tickets will no doubt leave a lot of fans disappointed but Limerick City and County Council and Limerick GAA are offering the next best thing by bringing the big match day atmosphere to the streets of Limerick City.

A Big Screen event on Pery Square will show the match live in a free family friendly setting. This family friendly event is free to attend but access is by E-Ticket only. Register here.

Live screenings of previous All Ireland finals at Limerick’s TUS Gaelic Grounds have attracted thousands of fans.

Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Gerald Mitchell says the move to Pery Square is a boost for the city centre:

“I’m delighted to see this big screen event coming to Pery Square. It will create an exciting buzz and provide a shot in the arm for traders as families spend the day in the city. I would ask people to be respectful of people’s property, particularly for the many residents in the vicinity of Pery Square. Let’s make this an occasion for everyone to enjoy and hopefully we’ll have a victorious four-in-a-row to celebrate when the final whistle blows. If you can’t be in Croke Park, Pery Square is the place to be. Luimneach Abú!”

Pery Square will also be the location for any homecoming celebrations on Monday evening.

Festivals Officer at Limerick City and County Council, Eugene Crimmins said:

“We anticipate that these events to celebrate the journey of Limericks heroic hurlers will bring thousands of supporters into the heart of Limerick for family friendly occasions. We are working closely with An Garda Siochana, other bodies, residents and businesses to keep disruption to a minimum. I’m confident that the people of Limerick will work with us and make this a weekend to remember.”

The Limerick players and management are urging fans attending the Big Screen and potential Homecoming events to show their pride in Limerick by leaving no litter behind.

Manager of the Limerick Senior Hurling team, John Kiely says it is a chance to show Limerick at its best:

“Lets make a statement by keeping Pery Square and the surrounding area really clean during the upcoming events in Limerick city. As a team we always support the Team Limerick Clean Up initiative every Good Friday and being respectful by keeping our streets clean is an important expression for all of us who are part of the Limerick Senior Hurling Team. So please don’t litter and let`s all make that extra statement of pride starting from now.”

It will not be permitted to consume alcohol at the events and bag checks will be conducted at entry points.

Go Green for Limerick!

Limerick City and County Council have been greening the city with extra Limerick flags and green and white bunting. Businesses and property owners are encouraged to show their colours in support of our hurling heroes to help add to the big match day atmosphere in the city.
