Limerick Masters Swimming Club will host the 2019 Irish Open Long Course Masters Championship gala at the UL Sport Arena 50m swimming pool in Limerick on Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd March 2019.
378 competitors representing 50 Masters Clubs will participate over the two days with, once again, significant overseas participation from Estonia, Greece, Lithuania and the United Kingdom. In addition there will be a strong representation from all corners of the Island, north and south. Entries are up compared to 2018 when the gala had to be rescheduled due to Storm Emma. It remains the largest masters gala event on the island of Ireland.
The gala will commence on Friday at 7pm with the 1500m freestyle. The entrants includes the top long distance swimmers in the country and prominent athletes from the world of triathlon.
The main program commences at 9am Saturday morning with a full program of events up to 5.30pm. As in previous years the Kearney Perpetual Cup for the 1500m freestyle, the Limerick Masters SC Perpetual Cup for the 50m freestyle and the Neylon Perpetual Trophy for the 50m Breaststroke will be awarded to the swimmers who are nearest to the world record in their respective age group. The club of the gala trophy will be hotly contested when considering the strong participation of clubs such as Aer Lingus Masters, NAC Masters, Kilkenny Masters and Kingdom Masters.
