Bruff to celebrate a vintage weekend wrapped around a very special Joycean Day

This year Bruff’s Community Summer Festival, which has been celebrated in Bruff for the past 9 years, will be built around Bloomsday on Saturday 16th June.

The Summer Festival / Bloomsday festivities take place from Friday 15th to Sunday 17th June. There’s an exciting line-up of events and activities for the whole family, with something extra special to delight all Joycean fans.

The Festival opens with a Tea Dance in the Church of Ireland, Bruff on Friday 15th June at 7pm, when the ladies present will have the first opportunity to display their gorgeous hats. Music is provided by the Connery Brothers and quality catering by the Old Bakehouse.

Joycean expert and aficionado, Donal Thurlow, promises a spectacular Bloomsday, "A Joycean Day!'. Opening ceremony by award winning actress Mary Harvey at 11.15 am Church of Ireland, Main Street, Bruff, to be followed by traditional Joycean Breakfast: Good words, good music, good food, followed by strolling through Ulysses, walk, talk and listen to the story of James Joyce and his works”. A Bloomsday not to be missed!

On Saturday afternoon, 16th June, we will experience Trieste Café Culture, where Donal Thurlow  will give the annual Joycean lecture, Connections.

Sunday 17th opens with a Wellness Expo at 12pm in the Church of Ireland, whereby practitioners and brands in fitness, mental health and healthy foods in our community and surrounding neighbourhoods, will have an opportunity to inspire, explain and display the benefits of their wellness product. This Expo is designed to be an informative, educational and entertaining event for people who might wish to take up a new hobby or pastime while keeping mentally and physically active.

At 2pm the celebration of the Centenary of the Suffragette Movement will take place in the Main Street and Morning Star park, accompanied by a Vintage Car Parade through the town.
