The People's Museum of Limerick is set to come alive with the enchanting power of poetry on Thursday, July 27th, 2023, at 7:30pm. The Poetry Circle, in collaboration with the Limerick Writers' Centre, proudly presents an evening of poetic expressions, featuring renowned poets Richard W. Halperin, Sheila Fitzpatrick O'Donnell, and Breda Spaight. The event will take place at the welcoming People's Museum of Limerick, located at 2 Pery Sq., Limerick.
The highlight of the evening will be captivating readings by the three distinguished poets, whose unique voices have garnered international acclaim. Richard W. Halperin, an Irish American poet, has gained recognition for his evocative verses, published by literary platforms such as Salmon Poetry and Lapwing Poetry. As Mr. Halperin celebrates his 80th birthday, Salmon prepares to release his much-anticipated anthology, Selected & New Poems for Autumn 2023, drawing upon his profound collections.
Sheila Fitzpatrick O'Donnell, hailing from Limerick City and now residing in Shanagolden, Co. Limerick, carries the rich legacy of her poetic lineage. Inspired by her mother, fondly known as Polly the Poet, Sheila has crafted a captivating body of work that has been featured in anthologies both in Ireland and abroad. Her collection, Where I'm From, published by Revival Press in May 2023, showcases her innate talent and heartfelt exploration of her roots.
Joining them is Breda Spaight, a talented poet from Co. Limerick, Ireland, whose lyrical verses have captured the attention of literary enthusiasts. Her work has been featured in esteemed publications including Southword, Poetry Ireland Review, Ambit, Aesthetica, and The North (Irish issue), amplifying her poetic prowess. Notably, Breda has received accolades such as the Boyle Arts Festival Poetry Prize and the Doolin Poetry Prize 2020. Her debut collection, Watching for the Hawk, published by Arlen House, promises an immersive journey through her vivid imagination.
In addition to the enthralling readings, The Poetry Circle welcomes aspiring poets and spoken word artists to take the stage during the Open-Mic session.
