Rathkeale, the start of the Limerick Greenway, became the latest destination to welcome cyclists by adding facilities throughout the town. In a coordinated approach stretching the length and breadth of Rathkeale, Downe’s Eurospar Supermarket, White’s Foodstore and Filling Station, Rathkeale House Hotel, the Welcome Centre, and historic Augustinian Abbey now have bike stands, car parking and toilets for visiting cyclists.
The Eurospar, White’s and the hotel offer covered pods or open picnic tables to enjoy their food and beverages. White’s now stocks puncture repair kits, has tools available and free air for tyres. The hotel hosts Pedal Pursuits Bike Hire and the Welcome Centre hosts a Fáilte Ireland Tourist Point.
The Limerick Greenway also has parking, picnic tables and toilets in Rathkeale. Greenway cyclists will find themselves next to the hotel, and a short ride alongside the River Deel to Main Street.
“The new facilities and Cyclists Welcome signs are Rathkeale’s way of welcoming Greenway visitors downtown,” said David Lamont, Cyclist Friendly Rathkeale Programme Manager for the Rathkeale Community Council. “The town continues to better itself and was ready in time for National Bike Week.”
