Limerick City and County Council has been successful in receiving funding of €679,901 for six projects under the Main Town and Village Renewal Scheme 2020, announced by Minister for Rural and Community Development, Ms. Heather Humphreys TD.
This announcement builds on the €350,960 of funding that was secured for twelve projects, in Limerick’s rural towns and villages, under the Accelerated Measure of the 2020 Town and Village Renewal Scheme.
The 2020 Town and Village Renewal Scheme funding will provide for a diverse range of projects including walkways, community gardens and parks, village enhancement works as well as the development of community buildings to accommodate remote working facilities and enhancement works at tourism attractions.
Many of the projects are assisting towns and villages in implementing measures that can help in responding to the ongoing challenges Covid-19 presents. Such projects include the creation of outdoor areas to accommodate social interactions in a safe environment to include furniture and awnings, enhancement of town centres by painting, cleaning and improving pedestrian access, provision of equipment to bring people back into towns and villages and the enhancement of community buildings.
The scheme also continues to support public-realm type activities and the enhancement of town centre amenities, particularly where this aids the economic and/or social recovery of a town or village.
The details of the towns and villages, project overview and the amount of grant funding secured under both the Main and the Accelerated Measure of the Town and Village Renewal Scheme 2020 are outlined below.
