Wildcards have a chance to clean up at Limerick Going for Gold Grand Final

Eight groups have been chosen as wildcards to compete in the grand final of the Limerick Going for Gold Tidy Towns category. €60,000 worth of prizes will be distributed in the 2023 final of the competition which aims to make Limerick a cleaner, brighter place to work, live and visit.

Whittling the wildcards down to eight was an incredibly difficult job for the Limerick Going for Gold Judges, Michael Griffin and Pat Sheerin. 

The eight groups to go forward as wildcards are listed in alphabetical order below: 

  1. Athea Tidy Towns 

  1. Bruff Tidy Towns 

  1. Croom Tidy Towns (Croom Community Development Association) 

  1. Hospital Tidy Towns 

  1. Kilfinane Tidy Towns 

  1. Kilmallock Tidy Towns 

  1. Kilteely Tidy Towns 

  1. Pallaskenry Tidy Towns 

They will join the groups selected by Public Vote on Live 95’s Limerick Today programme: 

  • Week 1 – Elton Tidy Towns 

  • Week 2 – Castleconnell Tidy Towns 

  • Week 3 – Askeaton Tidy Towns            

  • Week 4 – Patrickswell Tidy Towns 

  • Week 5 – Oola Tidy Towns 

The Grand Final of Limerick Going for Gold takes place in the Limerick Strand Hotel on October 25, 2023. 

The judges have also added some new awards to recognise the Trojan work undertaken by volunteers across Limerick City and County.  All will be revealed on the night of the Grand Final. 

Over €60,000 will be distributed over a range of categories in this year’s competition: 

  • Tidy Towns Category - must have entered Tidy Towns 2023 national competition 

  • Limerick Bee Friendly in Bloom open to all Tidy Towns groups who have not won a prize in Tidy Towns category, plus groups who did not enter Tidy Towns 2023 or do not have a group 

  • Residential Areas - estates and similar areas 

  • Reuse Award - Limerick City and County Council sponsor this prize. It will be awarded to a group or organisation involved in Reuse 

  • Best Front Garden Category - Sponsored by the Parkway Shopping Centre 

Limerick Going for Gold is run by Limerick City and County Council with sponsorship from JP McManus Charitable Foundation.
