Limerick city was at the heart of the action across the May Bank Holiday weekend as tens of thousands of people flocked to events at Riverfest Limerick 2024. The 20th edition of the festival saw a boon for local businesses, with bars, restaurants, and hotels all enjoying increased foot traffic across the four-days.
Families and festival enthusiasts reveled in fair weather, enjoying an abundance of activities as captured in a high-energy new video produced by Piquant on behalf of Limerick City and County Council.
Relive the excitement as Limerick welcomed a majestic winged Pegasus, setting the stage for an unforgettable weekend along the riverbanks. Thrill-seekers found their adrenaline fix with activities like zip-lining over the river, watersports on the Shannon and soaring to great heights on the Panoramic Wheel.
Food aficionados indulged in culinary delights at the National All Ireland BBQ Competition, savoured local produce at the Milk Market, or explored the diverse offerings of eateries and vendors at The Riverfestival Village. Fashionistas found their haven at Fashionfest, courtesy of the Holman Lee Agency, while exploring Limerick’s boutique scene for the perfect ensemble.
Kids rejoiced with another reason to stay up late on Sunday night as the Riverfest Spectacular Fireworks Display painted the night sky with bursts of colour and wonder. Riverfest complemented the Regeneron Great Limerick Run, with many participants and supporters enjoying post-race celebrations on Sunday evening.
A range of other activities awaited visitors, including treasure hunts, car shows, aerial acrobatics, garden games, and lots of live music, ensuring a weekend filled with excitement and entertainment in Limerick.
Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Gerald Mitchell, commented;
“this was perhaps the best Riverfest festival in memory. The giant Pegasus really raised excitement levels and set the tone for an action-packed extravaganza across the weekend. The atmosphere in the city was incredible and it was a delight to see so many people getting involved and coming together to celebrate as a community. I want to extend thanks to the festival partners and all the staff at Limerick City and County Council who put in the hard work to make this weekend a huge success. This was a fantastic way to mark 20 years of this enduring festival.”
Eileen Coleman, Senior Executive Officer of Tourism at Limerick City and County Council, says the success of the festival comes down to the people who support it:
“The public really embraced Riverfest Limerick 2024 and the feedback we have received has been overwhelmingly positive. It was a thrill to see so many images and videos from the festival being shared across social media as people celebrated together, creating lasting memories. The new highlights video gives just a flavour of the action and will perhaps entice even more people to make Limerick their destination for the May Bank Holiday weekend next year and every year.”
