Mayor congratulates Limerick members of Ireland’s Rugby World Cup 2023 squad

The Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Gerald Mitchell has today congratulated the four Limerick players who will represent Ireland at the 2023 Rugby World cup in France.

Munster stars Keith Earls, Conor Murray, David Kilcoyne and Craig Casey have all been named in Andy Farrell’s 33-man squad, who begin their World Cup journey on September 9 in Bordeaux against Romania.

Mayor Mitchell Commented:

“To see four Limerick men selected, is a real honour for the city and county. To Conor, Keith, Craig and David, I offer my heartfelt congratulations and I hope that they all know how proud the people of Limerick are of their selection to represent all of Ireland on the playing field. The Limerick contingent will bring a different kind of energy to the squad and give Ireland an edge.”

The four Limerick men make up an eight-strong contingent of Munster players who will face Romania, Tonga, South Africa and Scotland in the group stages.

Mayor Mitchell added: “My congratulations also to the fellow Munster men Peter O’Mahony, Tadhg Beirne, Jack Crowley and Jeremy Loughman, who will also represent the people of Munster in France.”

The Limerick representation does not stop on the field. Paul O’Connell, a Freeman of Limerick, is part of Andy Farrell’s coaching staff.

“No matter where you go in the world, if you mention Limerick and rugby, undoubtedly Paul O’Connell’s name will come up. I wish Paul, the backroom team and all the players and staff the very best of luck in the World Cup and fingers crossed, in a few weeks, we might have another trophy to bring back to Limerick,” Mayor Mitchell said.
