This May Bank Holiday weekend Limerick will take centre-stage, drawing crowds of thrill-seekers, culture vultures, foodies and fashionistas into the city to celebrate Riverfest Limerick 2024.
Along the banks of the picturesque River Shannon, Limerick hosts the first major national festival of the year, showcasing a variety of events that honour Limerick and its iconic waterways.
Excitement is mounting as Limerick prepares for a giant winged Pegasus to make its way along the banks of the river in what promises to be an experience not-to-be-missed. The Pegasé show will be an epic opener to an action-packed weekend.
There will be another excuse for the kids to stay up late on Sunday night as the Riverfest Spectacular Fireworks Display lights up the night.
In between, thrill-seekers can Zipline over the river, dive into some watersports with Riverfest on the Shannon or reach great heights on the Panoramic Wheel.
Food lovers can sample the fayre at the National All Ireland BBQ Competition, taste some local produce at the Limerick Tributary Market at the famous Limerick Milk Market, or eat out at Limerick’s many fine eateries or from the various vendors in The Riverfestival Village.
Culture enthusiasts can immerse themselves in Limerick’s rich history with the Limerick City Walking Tour, enjoy some artistic flair at the Potato Market Art Fair or follow the Limerick On Street Opera Trail.
The Holman Lee Agency will style your weekend at Fashionfest while the festival is a great excuse to explore and support Limerick city’s many fine clothing boutiques and stores to get the look ahead of a great night out.
A treasure hunt, car show, aerial acrobatics, garden games and lots of live music will all be found in Limerick this weekend.
Mayor of the City and County of Limerick Cllr Gerald Mitchell is looking forward to kicking off Summer in Limerick, saying,
“Riverfest Limerick 2024 embodies the essence of celebration, diversity, and community spirit. As we gear up for another remarkable weekend, the lineup reflects a commitment to offering an array of activities and events catering to all interests and ages. The Pegasé show is going to mesmerise young and old on Friday night and I encourage people to gather along the banks of the river to experience this spectacle. It will signal to the rest of the country that Limerick has it going on this May Bank Holiday.”
Now in its 20th year, Riverfest Limerick attracts thousands of people from all over Ireland. On Sunday, the crowds are bolstered by the thousands of entrants and supporters for the Regeneron Great Limerick Run, the biggest mass participation event outside of Dublin.
Senior Executive Officer for Tourism at Limerick City and County Council, Eileen Coleman says Riverfest Limerick provides a massive boost for the city:
