The Mayor of Limerick is wishing the Limerick Senior Hurler’s the best of luck as they bid for All Ireland glory once again this weekend.

Supporters are counting down the hours to throw-in at Croke Park at 3.30pm on Sunday.

Victory over Kilkenny would see Limerick equal the record of winning four All Ireland finals in a row.

Kilkenny completed the rare feat in 2009. Cork are the only other county to achieve four in a row in the years 1941 to 1944.

Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Gerald Mitchell said:

“On behalf of all the citizens of Limerick I wish the mighty Limerick hurling team the very best of luck on Sunday against Kilkenny. Under John Kiely, the Limerick team have delivered so many great sporting moments and achieved so much. Four All Ireland wins since 2018. Five in a row Munster Championship victories. They owe us nothing and yet they continue to deliver. Of course we all want to see them achieve an historic, record equaling four in a row on Sunday. Regardless of the outcome we will celebrate all that this team have accomplished. C’mon Limerick!”

Not everyone can go to Croke Park on Sunday and thousands of people have already booked their free e-tickets for a family friendly big screen viewing of the game in the heart of Limerick city.

A live DJ will get the watch party started at Pery Square presented by Limerick GAA in partnership with Limerick City and County Council.

Book early to avoid disappointment as there is limited capacity at the venue.

Communications Officer at Limerick City and County Council, Eric Clarke said:

“Thousands of people have already booked their place for the Big Screen event on Pery Square which will be a lively and safe place to enjoy the big game on Sunday. The venue capacity is limited so we would ask people not to book tickets if they don’t intend to use them as other people may be left disappointed. This event will cause a level of disruption in the locality and we have to thank the businesses in the area for their co-operation and understanding. It promises to be a great day and hopefully we’ll have a great result to celebrate as well.”

Gates open at 2pm for the Big Screen event. There will be no access granted after 4.30pm and it will not be permitted to consume alcohol.

Children under 16 will not be permitted without an adult and must be supervised at all times.
