Biodiversity Officer at Limerick City and County Council, Sinead Mc Donnell commented:

"National Heritage Week does an exceptional job of binding together in one festival Ireland's built, natural, and cultural heritage. I am delighted to be bringing a spotlight on natural heritage, biodiversity while supporting our County Shows, Cappamore and Limerick which take place during this week.  It is a great opportunity to meet Limerick families from all areas of the city and county and Limerick’s farming community.

“The ‘Connections to Nature and Wellbeing’ event will be a particularly special activity.  Connections to nature will be explored during a walk of the infinity Woodland Path. Poetry and music will feature along with tree and plant identification.  The event will also include a visit to the ‘rewilding’ work being undertaken in Milford Parish Grounds.  This is being run in collaboration with the Little Company of Mary and the Our Lady Help of Christians ‘30% to Nature by 2030’ pastoral group.”

Environment Awareness Office at Limerick City and County Council, Helen Kenneally added:

“The county shows are a great opportunity to meet the general public and share environmental messages such as reuse, preventing waste, managing waste correctly and the circular economy.  I look forward to meeting citizens from across Limerick during National Heritage Week at the Cappamore and Limerick Shows”.

Coordinated by the Heritage Council, National Heritage Week has become one of Ireland’s largest cultural events. National Heritage Week 2024 partners are the National Lottery, Fáilte Ireland, the Office of Public Works (OPW), the Irish Landmark Trust, the Local Authority Heritage and Biodiversity Officer Networks, and the Local Authority Waters Programme.
