The Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Gerald Mitchell says the latest in a series of recent investment wins for Newcastle West is cause for celebration.

50 full time jobs are being created in Limerick’s county capital as US food giant Sysco continues a multi-million euro investment in its West Limerick operation.

It brings the number of employees at the Limerick facility to more than 400.

Earlier this month Britvic Ireland announced a €6 million investment in its Ballygowan facility in Newcastle West, creating 28 new roles.

Also in September, Limerick City and County Council’s Regional Athletics Hub had its official opening following an investment of over €4 million, providing world class training facilities in Newcastle West.

Mayor Mitchell said the good news keeps coming:

“The delivery of 50 new jobs by food service provider, Sysco is another positive economic win for West Limerick. These jobs will have a further knock on effect for Newcastle West and the wider area. Following on so soon after Britvic announced a €6 million investment at Ballygowan, it is clear that companies can prosper in rural Limerick. The world class facilities at Limerick’s Regional Athletics hub and other top class amenities are adding to the attractiveness of Newcastle West as a place to live, work and settle down. I want to congratulate Sysco on their latest investment and wish them well in their continued expansion.”

Chief Executive of Limerick City and County Council, Dr Pat Daly highlighted the collaborative nature of doing business in Limerick:

“This investment by Sysco exemplifies the spirit of cooperation that defines Limerick. Limerick City and County Council works closely with local businesses, the community and relevant stakeholders to create an environment where companies like Sysco can thrive. It not only brings jobs to our county capital but also strengthens the entire community. Newcastle West is a testament to the success that can be achieved when we work together to build a brighter economic future for Limerick.”

Director for Economic Development, Enterprise and Tourism, Gordon Daly said:

“This string of successes highlights the resilience and potential of Newcastle West and West Limerick. Delivering the Regional Athletics Hub was a huge boost for the area and to have that followed by millions of euro of investment by companies like Britvic and Sysco it’s evident that Newcastle West is not just a place to do business but also a thriving community.”
