The Limerick Migrant Integration Forum in collaboration with Limerick City and County Council present Africa Day Limerick 2024, celebrating one continent, many cultures and infinite unity at Limerick’s Milk Market on Sunday, 26 May from 12pm to 6pm.
Africa Day Limerick 2024 promises to be a kaleidoscope of cultural diversity, glamour, colour, and tradition. Experience a rich tapestry of dance, music, food, and art.
In partnership with Irish Aid and African embassies, Africa Day aims to bridge the gaps of inequalities and barriers in our society, fostering social cohesion and celebrating the richness of African cultures.
Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Gerald Mitchell says it is an opportunity to embrace diversity:
“In a world where differences often divide us, Africa Day Limerick is a reminder that our diversity is not a barrier, but our greatest strength. This event is a testament to the vibrant spirit of Limerick, a city that not only accepts diversity but actively celebrates it. It’s a declaration that every culture, every story, and every voice matters.”
Kate Njoku, Chairperson of the Limerick Migrant Integration Forum, expressed her enthusiasm for the event, saying,
“Africa Day Limerick 2024 is not just an event; it’s a movement towards a more inclusive and integrated society. It’s a day where we celebrate not only African heritage but also the shared values that unite us as a community.”
Seamus O’Connor, Chief Officer, Community Development at Limerick City and County Council commented:
“We are delighted to collaborate with Limerick Migrant Integration Forum to present the Africa Day Event in the Milk Market. No doubt it will be a fantastic day, not only to celebrate and taste the cultures of Africa but also to witness the strength of diversity in Limerick. I want to acknowledge the work of the members of the Migrant Forum for organising this event and I have no doubt it will be enjoyed by all on the day."
The festivities will include a variety of performances and activities, from traditional African drumming and storytelling to fashion shows and interactive sessions. DJ Raspizo will entertain the crowd with afro beats and there will be performances from Niieedo, Mexican Community, Indian Community, African Gospel Choir, Kate Njoku, and other gospel artists, among others.
Join us in embracing multiculturalism in action and making diversity the keyword in this year’s event. Let’s come together to honour African cultural heritage and its classical diversified presence in Limerick.
